The Story:	Shaun (Simon Pegg) has just been dumped, his best mate is a freeloading waster who is causing problems at home and his job is the deadest of dead ends. No wonder he hasn't noticed that zombies are trudging through the streets of London, ready to chow down on the flesh of the living. When the scales fall from his eyes, Shaun must prove himself by saving his ex and his mum from the legions of hell -- before tea time. Edgar Wright helms the bloody spoof. The reason I chose this movie was mainly because it has an urban setting and although it's horror, it also includes aspects of comedy and action and it helps me understand and identify a typical urban-action type scene and I will be a step closer in finding what sort of action scene i should include in my opening two minutes.    One of the most important things i found from the statistics of the movie was that all classes watch it equally with a slight advantage to the upper/middle class. This again shows that all classes would like and watch an urban action movie. Moreover it really helps me understand that the urban-action film genre is very niche as i'm looking at the audience profiling of what is essentially a horror movie but it's the closest I have to a movie like mine.    Another thing I have identified was that the age certificate for a movie like this and how it supports my other audience profiling analysis in which it states that a movie like this will be suitable for ages 15 and over.  What are we going to do to appeal to this group? As I was saying earlier, the reason I chose this movie was because of its urban location. In order to appeal to this group, I must have a very urban location which will make people think that this movie was filmed in England. This will not only bring the British audience in but also the upper/middle class.

Hunger games R&P Adventure

The hunger games is an adventure movie with a very interesting opening two minutes. The main characters are Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth.
  

The opening 1/2 a minute consists of text and non-diegetic music but it has no verbal speech wich shows that this movie has a slow tempo to it. The text given in the first 30 seconds excluding the inter titles gives a brief overview of the history of the hunger games which is followed by a character who is in the middle of an interview and the camera uses a very productive over the shoulder shot during the interview but you could tell that both characters will play some part in the movie as they were both sharing the camera. You could also identify the character on the right as a bad character through his appearence as his beard is shaped in such a way that it doesnt send a good vibe and the fact that he is trying to justify the hinger games when the opening piece of text would suggest that the hunger games are unethical.
 A effective effect used when presenting the text is the slow zooming in. Moreover the backround is black so it really emphasises the text and the music in the backround also indicates that this text is going to be negative as opposed to somthing positive about the hunger games. This is supported when there is a sudden cut and scream followed by crying after the interview.
   This is a a great movie because it shows me how to build tension in a movie and as my movie is going to have a fight in the opening scene and this movie gives me an idea on how to build that tension before the fight. As the hunger games had someone screaming which would have caught the attentioon on the audience, I will have the sound of a punch.

The film I will now be analyzing is Men in Black 3. The main characters are Will smith, Tommy Lee Jones and Josh Brolin.


     The genre actually gets introduced towards the end of ther two minutes when we see Boris the animal and the two mysterious creatures. This shows it's a sci-fi because these creatures are from out of space and also when we see Boris's tongue which suggests that he is not human as well. Another indication of the genre is the techno style non diegetic soundtrack. Techno sound is very much linked to sci-fi movies. Other examples that support this is E.T. and back to the future as well. We also see a fair bit of action where the space spider attack the guards. Moreover anyone called "Boris the Animal" suggests that he is not human and so from another planet.
   We don't see the main characters in the opening two minutes but the majority of the emphasis from the camera is on Nicole Scherzinger's character and Boris's as well. Although Nicole has more prevalence through screen time, her name is not mentioned at all whereas Boris's name is mentioned on numerous occasions and it tries to show that Boris is the main character and not Nicole but she is just the seductive side-kick. Boris is represented as a dangerous villain and is presented to make you feel like he is the next target for the Men in Black. The way Boris is chained up and not in a regular cell but a segregated cell suggests that he is extremely dangerous. In addition to this, the guard says "oh God" as if he is disturbed. Moreover, Boris's look is quite scary as well in which you can identify that he is certainly not a hero.
    I feel the mood was quite tense in the opening two minutes. I believe they done this effectively by cutting the non diegetic techno music and put some tense sound on which help the audience understand the sudden change in the mood. One really good effect is when the door closes and makes a loud noise which helps to increase the tension.
   The use of props give a futuristic feel to the movie which also helps the genre as a cliche commonly associated with sci-fi movies are that everything is very futuristic. A good example of this would be star trek. An example of the use of effective props that supports this cliche is when the security guards scanner to identify that she is a visitor. You won't find that anywhere in the modern day.
  The way MIB 3 placed Boris's cell right at the end again will make the audience feel as if this character is really dangerous. Moreover Prevalence is shown to Boris as his name is tattooed on her back and although it is an extreme close up of Nicole, it seems Boris still receives more prevalence.
  This film is extremely useful as it shows me that one characters impetus in the movie can be large even if he isn't in the scene. It also helps me identify some cliche's of the sci-fi genre which is important because it helps me ensure that i don't include these cliches into my movie otherwise people will believe that the genre is sci-fi as opposed to urban action.

Safe House R&D Action

The film i will now be analyzing is safe house. This genre movie is action and the main characters are Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds.
    The first thing i noticed when i was watching the opening two minutes was the natural lighting. At the beginning when the camera was looking at Ryan to identify he was the main character, the background was very dark and this helps the audience focus on the main character but more importantly it suggests that this character is facing a struggle and the audience may make the assumption that he is a middle/lower class individual.
    The genre of action gets introduced straight away when the picture is rater distorted but you can make out that a person is boxing. As it's not much action really involved, the non diegetic sound and the distorted image makes it feel much more like an action scene than it really is. This shows how effects can change peoples perceptions of the event.
    There is a extreme long shot near the beginning where it shows a extreme long shot of where Ryan currently is and it looks like a lovely  place where the sun is shining down. Again it supports the idea that this character is facing a struggle. Towards the end of the boxing scene, there are faster cuts which suggest that he was getting more intense as he was going along.
    As Ryan Reynolds is boxing at the beginning, it shows him to be strong and very masculine  The lighting alongside the fast pace of the boxing tells me that he has some troubles or some sort of burden on his shoulders.
    The music really helps set the mood. The soundtrack really puts you on edge alongside the fast pace of the boxing. Moreover the posture of Ryan Reynolds isn't really great throughout the opening two minutes. Furthermore when he is talking to his girlfriend, the camera keeps on cutting from one scene to another. This helps the audience identify that he's lying to his girlfriend as he says he has meetings all morning when in actual fact, he is going to a safe house.
    I believe the use of cuts from scene to scene is done very effectively and is very useful when you are talking about the future. A great example of this is both of the Sherlock Holmes movies where he plans how he will defeat his opponent and then does it.

horror movie cliches

Cliches concern itself with similarities shared between a number of movies in the same genre. One example would be the explosions in action movies. Explosions occur a lot in action movies and so is known as a typical action cliche.

    The genre i will be focusing on is horror and what cliches are involved in these types of movies.
Common cliches in horror movies are:

1. Blood- This is probably the most obvious one as it is seen in a lot of horror movies and the typical perception of blood is not a great one. A few examples of where blood is used in horror movies are a nightmare on elm street, saw and scream but scream does subvert from the horror cliches in some way as it also contains the product and cliches of a comedy.
2. The separation of two characters- In many horror movies, two characters tend to split up and go their separate ways either because the think it's much more clever or an excuse such as going to the toilet. There are many examples of this cliche in movies such as Lesbian Vampire Killers and Sean of the Dead.
3. Nightmares- These are very common with horror movies in comparison with other genres. The dream tends to happen just before the scary event in which the nightmare turns into a reality. An example of this may be a Nightmare on Elm Street.
4. Locking or Barricading the door- They do this to be safe but the majority of the audience that identify this cliche will possibly guess the outcome to be more bad than good. Examples of this cliche is Sean of the Dead and scream.

Why I chose these pictures for my moon board:
1) I got a picture of a British council estate because our movie will be set in a similar area. Moreover the fact that our film will be a British film, it’s vital that I get the characters right and where they live. The most important reason of why I chose this picture is because it shows three men together suggesting that they are allies. I am trying to show the same thing in my movie as my main character will be involved in a gang that he can trust with his life.
2) My second picture is a knife to show that my film is an action film. Moreover it denotes violence which there will be a lot of in my film as it’s an action.
3) My third picture is a picture of a gang as my movie will have a gang in it which the main character is part of. My main character is not the leader of the gang but a member which suggests that the leader needs people and he will always be around his gang whereas the main character will use the majority of the camera space suggesting he has more prevalence. The gang also has a picture of a gun in it again showing violence and reinforces the stereotype that gangs are violent.
4) My fourth picture is a picture of money. I chose this because it shows the main motive of my movie. It tries to justify the violence and murder that will occur in the movie. The reason I chose lots of £50 as opposed to other types of notes is because it shows that there will be a lot of money at stake.
5) My fifth picture is a picture of a gun. The reason for this is because it emphasises the idea of violence and death. I chose a gun for the similar reason of choosing a knife but because I don’t quite know what qualities my main character will possess, I’m still not sure what weapon he will have. Furthermore I believe that although both weapons do the same job, people will have different opinions about them.
6) My sixth picture is handcuffs. The reason for this is to show what enemies my main character must overcome. This tells others how my main character will be perceived in the movie as a “bad guy” because the police will be after him.
7) My seventh picture is a fight between two individuals supposedly outside a council estate to re in force the stereotype of people living in a council estate and the working class which is aggressive and rude. This is why I’ve got a picture of two of them fighting.
8) My eighth picture consists of a full tracksuit outfit. I chose this because it may be what my main character is going to wear and again stereotype what sort of clothes the working class wears.
9) My ninth picture is an example of a phone that is not very expensive which may be used by an old person or a working class individual. This is the type of phone my main character will have because it will indicate status within the group. The better the phone, the higher the status.
10) My tenth picture is a Burberry wallet. The reason I chose this is because chavs are associated with fake Burberry and so I thought I can bring in this association with my character via giving him a fake Burberry wallet.
11) Again, my eleventh picture is also a council estate because I believe it’s vital we get the scene right in order for the audience to understand where it’s set and thus will understand the stereotypes put in place with the characters.
12) My final image is a picture of a watch. Watches also suggest status. My main character will be wearing a watch and so it will show that he is rather respected among the lower class. The leader of the gang will have the best watch because he is most important.
